We want you to be prepared, so we’ll give you all the details about the requirements and procedures you’ll come across before or during your stay in Jamaica. You’ll receive detailed information about our country’s protocols currently in place, the testing and health checks you may be required to undergo by health authorities (depending on where you are arriving from, and your travel history) and any updates while you are in the country.

We understand that it might be difficult for some travelers to reschedule their program right now. Any individual or group traveler or who is unable to travel can receive an electronic Future Travel Voucher.

Yes. From now until May 31, 2021, any booking you have with JVP can be rescheduled to any available date and location. However, we understand that it could be challenging for some travelers to change their program dates. In response to this, we are offering Future Travel Vouchers during this period for individuals or groups who cannot reschedule their date.

 

Flexible booking means you can change your booking date at any time during the chosen period. Therefore, if, for some reason, due to COVID, you can’t travel at the date you had booked, then you can reschedule your travel date. This, of course, will be subject to availability and will be offered up until May 31, 2021, and reviewed if a further extension is needed.

JVP understands that traveling during this time can be very risky. This is why our goal is to reduce your risk and build your confidence in booking with us. If, for any reason, you cannot meet your travel date before May 31, 2021 (extendable), then JVP presents you with two options.

Firstly, you can accept a Flexi Booking Travel Voucher and travel at a later date that’s more convenient for you instead of canceling. Whether you are traveling as an individual or with a group, this option is available to you. Your travel voucher can be used in any of our programs, should you decide to change your initial program selected. The later date selected is also subject to availability.

However, for travelers who cannot reschedule and were set to depart before May 31, 2021, you will receive a refund of all monies paid, less the registration fee of US$300.

When you arrive at the airport, depending on where you are coming from (that is, if your country is deemed to be high risk), you may be required to do a COVID-19 test. If you are tested, you will then be isolated at the volunteer home until you have received your results, which should be available in 2-3 days.

If you have tested negative, then you may proceed with your itinerary. However, if your test results are positive, then you will be isolated at the volunteer home and provided with all the support you will need. If you become very sick, your case will be reported to the Government, and treatment will be provided until it is safe for you to return home.

JVP will do its best to transfer your start date to allow you to participate in your program. However, this will be subject to availability.

If you or another intern/volunteer contracts the coronavirus, then that person will be isolated, given support, and treated like family. JVP has an emergency action plan for all our locations to manage such situations. With official international and local health authorities, we have established the best protocols to reduce transmission and infections. This includes screening, preventative hygiene, sanitation procedures, and isolation areas for all our volunteer homes. Our JVP caregivers will also wear protective clothing where necessary.

Should a volunteer/intern at any point contract the virus, the relevant health authorities will be alerted, and treatment will follow. We know isolation might sound scary, but our JVP team will treat you like family. You will be assigned a caregiver who will see to it that you have everything you need including food, accommodation, and support.

While isolation can be scary, the truth is that the patient will be assigned a JVP caregiver who will ensure they have everything needed during this period, including food, accommodation, and emotional support.
