High School Volunteer Projects Abroad

High School Volunteer Projects Abroad will give you opportunities to make new friends from different cultures.

It is hoped that during this time, the exciting experiences will open the eyes of the teens to better appreciate another culture and the values of the people. The goal of the program is to help these high school teens appreciate the things they have at home. This experience will become a resume-builder, great for college and job applications.

Make new long-lasting friendships

Looking to make friends who want to do the same? Teenage overseas volunteering is open to high school students from around the world who will all join the group with the same start and end dates. This will allow you to live with people from different cultures and learn firsthand to appreciate their differences. Just imagine bonding with these new friends who you’ll come to love and appreciate as your own family members for a lifetime.

Cultural immersion of a lifetime

Picture Jamaica – Forget everything you thought you knew about this island. Instead, picture an incredibly warm and friendly team waiting to welcome you. Who knows Jamaica better than Jamaicans? So come prepared with an open heart and a sense of adventure to immerse in our culture. It is your chance to touch, feel and see the ‘Real Jamaica’ as you eat mouth watering foods, learn to speak Jamaican and say popular words like ‘yeah man!’

For Parents – Safety and security for your teens

Are you a parent or family member who is thinking of sending your teen to volunteer abroad? If you are, then this is for you. Jamaica Volunteer Programs understands the goals and concerns that you have for your child. Because the owners of the program are parents too, we understand the need for structure, safety, and support from a trained staff. We have tried to include everything in the itinerary to challenge, excite and motivate the teens.

We know teens that join volunteer opportunities abroad might not have traveled alone before, so our Program Advisors accompany them on excursions, supervises projects more closely and generally offer more support than for other projects.

Project Info

Project Info

High school volunteer projects abroad are open to all whether you volunteer during winter break, spring break or summer.

You can either work in a group or as an individual when volunteering as a teacher. No prior experience is necessary. However, you have to be flexible and adaptable.

To get started here’s the process:

Step 1

We know you want to find a project that will make a great impact in the community you are working, so we’ll search for the perfect match for your skills or interest.

Step 2

Once we have selected your project, our program advisor will contact you to start creating your itinerary. We’ll work together and share ideas that have worked in the past.

Step 3

Pre-planning is important in order to be fully prepared for your project. You’ll need to figure out all the supplies that you’ll require. These could be play dough, music equipment, crayons or material for craft.

Project days & times:

Your High School Volunteer Projects Abroad programs will be available Monday – Fridays from 9:00 am to approximately 4:30.pm. If you would like a shorter day we can organize this. We want you to be totally immersed in the Jamaican culture so on weekends our organization offers day excursions and cultural immersion experiences. We continually look for eye-opening cultural activities for you to do in your free time, so on your arrival in Jamaica we could suggest current events like festivals and sports.

Duration of this project

When volunteering with Jamaica Volunteer Programs you can work for one week  or up to three months. You can volunteer for a minimum of one week or a maximum of three months. If you require a longer duration special arrangements would be needed so contact us.

Combine Multiple Projects

High School Volunteer Projects Abroad are often combined with teaching in schools or working in Orphanages. If you are interested in working with Orphanages or childcare facilities you can make this request.

How High School Volunteer Projects Abroad programs work?

Orientation: On your arrival at your volunteer home you will be given an orientation. During the orientation you’ll be told what to expect the following day, the time of departure and pick up.

Transportation:

On your first day and every day of your project we will provide transportation. Depending on your project location, you may be transported alone or as part of a group.

What to expect on the first day of your project

We promised to be always there for you, so as a part of your in-country support, we provide one of our Program Advisors to accompany you to your project on your first day. You will be introduced to the local staff and we help you settle in. We will not leave you until we are sure that you are comfortable and have clear instructions on what to do.

Before our departure, we will help you make arrangements for an affordable lunch or we will show you how to find the closest food store. At end of the day, we’ll pick you up at the agreed time. On your way home, we can go the extra mile to allow you to purchase supplies or changed to our local currency.

Start Dates

Start Dates

On your application you will indicate your start and end dates. Although we are flexible there are times during the year when Jamaica has major holidays and celebration, so it is advisable to plan your trip that your dates do not coincide with these major events.

Pre- set arrival dates

If you are travelling as a group or with family members, we’ll work with you to set the dates of your arrival. We ask that you book your flight to arrive on the weekend so that you can start on a Monday. If your arrival date cannot be on a weekend, you need to make special arrangements for a mid–week start date.

Last minute booking

We encourage you to always plan your volunteering trips early as pre-planning allows you to get more out of your trip. If you decide at the last minute to volunteer in Jamaica, it might be possible to make it happen but it will depend on the project. Complete the application form and contact us to find out if we can make the project of your choice happen.
